Church History
The First Congregational Church of Plummer
came into existence in 1910 when Rev. S.A. Waters visited the
newly established town, secured a large tent, organized a Sunday
school and conducted regular preaching services under the fir
and pine trees covering the larger portion of the town site.
In November 6, 1910 the church was organized. John G.
Underwood, David Summers, and J. Byler were named trustees and
David Summers and Henry Sailing were elected deacons. Mrs. Ida
McMillen was elected clerk and the church was incorporated in
1911.
Plans for a building were drawn up in late 1910 and two lots were purchased and cleared in 1911. Excavation began, rock and building materials were brought in and soon a church building costing about $4,000 was erected. The Pastor, S.A. Waters, worked untiringly, preaching on Sundays and helping the builders from the time the rock was quarried until the building was completed.
The first parsonage was purchased in 1922 and sold for $300 in 1929. The church basement was finished in 1937 and in 1948 another parsonage was purchased. The present parsonage was purchased in 1952.

Finding a full-time resident pastor for a
small rural church has not always been easy. From 1925 until
1956 Plummer Congregational Church shared support of a resident
pastor with Worley Church.
Several student pastors filled the pulpit
in the early years, C.W. Kirkpatrick, Julian Keiser, Charles
Broadbent and Harland Lewis. In later years several pastors
commuted from Spokane and elsewhere to present messages on
Sundays. They included Sam Spatola, Jim Korver, Rusty May.
Two mission organizations have provided pastoral support since 1978.
